How Can You Help?

The Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance has many volunteer opportunities throughout the state doing a variety of tasks to help fight hunger in Arkansas. See below for the specific activities you can get involved in and then sign up using our online portal!

Volunteer Opportunties

Join the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance and be part of a movement that fights hunger and strengthens the local food system across the state! Whether you volunteer weekly in our garden, help harvest fresh produce, or support one of our signature events like Serving Up Solutions, Watermelon Crawl, or Turnip for Hunger, your time and energy make a real, tangible difference for Arkansas families in need. No experience is required—just a willingness to dig in, lend a hand, and help cultivate food, community, and impact.

INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEER DAYS AT HEIFER RANCH

EVERY TUESDAY FROM 9:00 AM – NOON | APRIL–DECEMBER

Volunteers will help plant, tend, and harvest crops across a vibrant two-acre garden at Heifer Ranch, growing fresh, healthy food that is distributed through the charitable food network to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. From tucking seeds into the earth in spring to gathering sun-ripened produce in the fall, each Tuesday is a chance to be part of something tangible and nourishing.

No green thumb required—just a willingness to dig in and make a difference. Whether you come once or make it your weekly rhythm, your time in the garden will help turn rows of vegetables into real meals for Arkansas families.

Open to:
• Individuals not affiliated with a business, church, or large group
• Volunteers aged 12 and up (must be accompanied by a guardian)

GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Some of the most powerful change happens when people work together toward a common goal. Bringing your group to volunteer with the Alliance is a chance to strengthen your team, deepen your community roots, and make a direct impact on hunger relief across Arkansas. Group volunteers are essential to our mission, working side by side on tasks like planting, harvesting, and tending crops — then helping wash and pack that fresh produce so it can reach Arkansas families and communities in need.

Open to:

  • Volunteers participating with a business, corporation, college organization, church, school groups, or other large group

  • Volunteers aged 12 and up (must be accompanied by a guardian)

Signature Volunteer Events

Signature volunteer events are special, one-time opportunities throughout the year to get involved, give back, and be part of some of the Alliance’s most impactful moments. From harvesting fresh produce for food banks to supporting our premier fundraising event, there’s something for everyone. Explore our upcoming signature events below.

SERVING UP SOLUTIONS

We need your help! Our annual fundraiser, Serving Up Solutions, is just around the corner, and we’re calling on volunteers to help make it a success. The event will take place on Thursday, May 20th & 21st at the Albert Pike Masonic Center in Downtown Little Rock. Support this fundraising event by helping with setup, serving, and guest experiences to raise critical funds for the Alliance’s programs.

Open to:

WATERMELON CRAWL

We’re heading to Heifer Ranch in Perryville in July for our annual Watermelon Crawl! Last year, more than 90 volunteers helped harvest over 60,000 pounds of melons, which were distributed across 33 counties through the Arkansas Foodbank. Join us for a fun day in the field with snacks, games, and plenty of summer cheer—all while helping get fresh, local produce to communities across Arkansas.

Open to:
• Individuals and groups
• Volunteers of all ages (minors must be accompanied by a guardian)

TURNIP FOR HUNGER

Bring the whole family and help us harvest turnips to feed Arkansas families! Join us for the 2026 Turnip for Hunger this November at Heifer Ranch in Perryville. We’ll be harvesting turnips grown by the Alliance that will be donated to Arkansas food banks.

Why you’ll love it:
-Dig in and get your hands dirty in the turnip patch
-Breathe the fresh fall air & sunshine
-Warm up by the bonfire with coffee & hot chocolate

Fun for kids, adults, and everyone in between — roll up your sleeves and help turn this harvest into meals for neighbors in need!

What to Bring: A positive attitude and your best energy — this is a special evening!

What is Provided: All materials and supplies needed for your volunteer role, as well as a light dinner and water.

Work Conditions: Serving Up Solutions is held in an indoor, air-conditioned facility. Volunteers should expect to be on their feet for several hours and may be required to lift at least 20 pounds depending on your assigned shift.
