SUMMARY

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is charged with the day-to-day leadership,
management, and policy implementation of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance in pursuit of its mission, collaborating as a statewide voice advancing equitable solutions to hunger.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In partnership with the Board of Directors and staff, develop a long-term strategic plan and an annual work plan for the organization to establish goals and objectives based on the Alliance’s current strategic plan.

  • Provide leadership, information, and guidance to the Board of Directors to ensure the achievement of Alliance objectives in program delivery, fund raising, and association management.

  • Recruit, hire, manage, supervise, mentor and terminate employment of staff as appropriate.

  • Ensure the cultivation of a team of qualified, trained, outcome-oriented professionals and provide a work atmosphere and culture that fosters achievement of mission objectives.

  • Ensure that staff training and performance evaluations are conducted on a regular basis and that employees are advised on performance and career growth opportunities.

  • Initiate, develop, and maintain organizational relationships between the Alliance and external entities including but not limited to the Arkansas General Assembly, the Governor, Congressional delegation, state and federal agencies, national foundations and funders, businesses, and civic and community-based organizations.

  • Work with national anti-hunger partners to maximize efforts to enact a board approved public policy agenda that supports food insecure Arkansans and Alliance members.

  • Direct the implementation and management of the budget and provide accountability for delivery of bottom-line results.

  • Ensure appropriate stewardship practices of donations.

  • Ensure all volunteer and staff resources are maximized in identifying and securing new sources of revenue and support for the Alliance mission.

  • Work with development director in seeking, securing, and managing government and foundation grants as well as annual and major gifts.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in partnership with the organization’s Board of Directors (particularly the six Feeding America food banks) and serve as an ex officio member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Maintain regular communication with key donors to keep them informed about the mission of the Alliance, how their contributions are spent, and involve them in local events and activities as appropriate.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with community and business leaders, local, state, and federal government officials, media representatives, and other key contacts to promote the work of the Alliance.
  • Inform potential contributors of ongoing activities and special needs of the Alliance and its members.
  • Network with and create partnerships with community groups (churches, businesses, schools, individuals, and other non-profits).
  • Implement marketing materials, based on the organization’s strategies and objectives, to support events, programs and services, including web site updates.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position directly supervises all paid staff of the organization and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of ten years management experience in a hunger relief setting or comparable non-profit organization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CEO or Executive Director experience preferred. Experience in policy and advocacy work at all levels (experience in advocacy work with the Arkansas General Assembly and federal delegation preferred), strategic planning and vision, fundraising, board development, staff leadership and management, program development, and consensus building needed.
