Why We advocate

Food insecurity is one of the most pressing challenges standing between Arkansas families and a healthy future.

In Arkansas, too many children sit in classrooms too hungry to learn, and too many seniors are forced to choose between food and medicine. Food insecurity reaches into every corner of our state, quietly stealing health, hope, and opportunity from our most vulnerable neighbors. While the burden on our health care system, schools, and economy is immense, the true cost is far more than financial. It’s generational. This is why we unrelentingly advocate for the rights of every hungry Arkansan and work tirelessly for the policies and funding that protect our families. We work to bring focus to the issue, dispel myths about hunger in Arkansas, and build a more civically minded society, because changing the trajectory of hunger in our state starts with changing hearts and minds.

Graphic of two child icons with the large text 1 in 4 children face hunger in Arkansas overlaid.
Text over a green silhouette of Arkansas reads: More than 500,000 Arkansans are food insecure.
Text graphic showing a large green percent symbol in the background and bold text that reads: 51% of food insecure Arkansans earn above SNAP income limits (on average, not eligible for SNAP despite need).

Our advocates play a critical role in our efforts to influence hunger and food security policy at the federal and state level. Working together, we are changing what’s possible for Arkansas families.
