Arkansas College Hunger Summit Recap

Honors Arkansas and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance hosted the first statewide hunger summit on Thursday, April 14, at the Heifer International Pavilion in Little Rock. The purpose of the summit was to raise awareness in the fight against college hunger. Over 30 colleges and universities were represented; 24 schools received a $1,000 grant check and one-year membership in the Alliance.

“Cultivating Common Ground to End Hunger” with Jeremy K. Everett

Jeremy K. Everett, national hunger expert and author of I Was Hungry, joins us via Zoom on Thursday, April 28, at 11:30 a.m. to talk about his experiences and how common ground and collaboration is vital to community organizations fighting hunger. Jeremy is founder and executive director of the Texas Hunger Initiative, an organization that partners with the US Department of Agriculture, state agencies, the corporate sector, and thousands of faith- and community-based organizations to develop and implement strategies to alleviate hunger.

School Breakfast After the Bell Improves Student Behavior

It’s no surprise to learn that students are better behaved after eating breakfast served during the school day, and now we have Arkansas data to prove it.

In a new article, “School Breakfast and Student Behavior” published March 2022 in the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Andres Cuadros-Meñaca and Michael R. Thomsen from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Rodolfo M. Nayga, Jr. from Texas A&M University, seek to answer the question of whether children’s behavior improved after their schools started delivering Breakfast after the Bell (BAB) – breakfast offered after the school day begins.
